ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals)

In 2015, the ZDHC Foundation was established in Amsterdam with an updated vision of brands working collaboratively to implement sustainable chemistry, drive innovation and commit to best practices in the fashion industry to protect consumers, workers and the environment. In order to achieve this mission the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme which is a collaborative initiative of fashion brands, chemical suppliers, manufacturers and laboratories has been created for working to reduce the chemical footprint of apparel and footwear. As well as, ZDHC drives the global implementation of its sustainable chemical management framework and empower the global value chain to substitute or phase out hazardous chemicals in the production process and drive chemical and process innovation.

ZDHC Tools

ZDHC has created chemical management tools designed to make the industry more transparent about the use of chemicals in the value chain. It has helped evaluate the performance of facilities in their efforts to implement the ZDHC program by providing support in finding safer alternatives to replace hazardous chemicals. Designed for this purpose, ZDHC Gateway has become a common platform for all steps in the textile supply chain.

The Gateway has Chemical and Waste Water modules with data entry. There is also a module for brands that can create accounts to check supplier information.

  • The Chemicals Module is the world's first verified safer chemistry database for the apparel and footwear industry. It allows textile manufacturers to evaluate the ZDHC MRSL compliance level of chemical formulations used in their production processes. It is the platform that chemical manufacturers upload their products with certificates of conformity and open to brand suppliers.
  • The Wastewater Module is a global online platform for recording and sharing verified wastewater test data according to the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines. Through the ZDHC Gateway - Wastewater Module, ZDHC continues to promote transparency in a non-transparent supply chain.

ZDHC Performance InCheck is an easy-to-read performance report that demonstrates the ZDHC MRSL conformance of a facility’s chemical inventory.

This report shows how much a chemical inventory conforms to the requirements of the ZDHC MRSL. A comprehensive overview of a supplier’s chemical inventory and its overall conformance is produced, all in an easy-to-read report. ZDHC InCheck provides clear, understandable results and helpful guidance to increase the use of safer chemistry.

ZDHC ChemCheck is a product passport of chemical formulations that verifies ZDHC MRSL conformance.

Formulators can generate a ZDHC ChemCheck Report for their published products on the ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module. They can use it to assure customers that their chemical products meet ZDHC MRSL requirements.

ZDHC ClearStream is an easy-to-read facility performance report of ZDHC wastewater conformance that is accepted by leading brands.

Accordingly, ZDHC is continuously improving its tools to verify businesses' compliance with the guidelines and increasing the transparency of wastewater reporting.
